WILLIAM BECKFORD: An extraordinary and eccentric art collector

Throughout his lifetime William Beckford created one of the greatest collections in Europe and had buildings especially designed within which to display it. 

His pictures included works by Bellini and Perugino and he commissioned paintings from Turner amongst others. A connoisseur of the highest quality of artistry and craftsmanship, Beckford’s furniture and metalwork were frequently at the forefront of change in style and taste.  This talk will explore the range of Beckford’s collecting and his obsession with how it was displayed.
